After Ben Bizier left the PULHEIM GOPHERS a few weeks ago, the second northern division club in the German Baseball-Bundesliga now parted ways with his head coach. Mathias Winterrath is no longer at the helm of the BONN CAPITALS due to differences with his players. His contract with the club would have ended of the year anyway.
Simon Falke replaces him and also will coach the junior team at the national championship in Regensburg at the end of September. Winterrath and the CAPS had missed the playoffs in Germany for the second season in a row. The club finished with an 11-21 record in sixth place. The 41-year-old also played for Germany during his active career and was the head coach of the SOLINGEN ALLIGATORS for six years until 2005.
Speaking of the ALLIGATORS, the local newspaper “Solingen Tageblatt” reported this week that starting pitcher Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez is pondering offers from Italian Baseball League clubs and could leave the team this winter. On the other hand SOLINGEN tries to bring back Andre Hughes, who joined the Dutch club HCAW MR COCKER this season. Both left-handers are expected to start for the German national team next week in the upcoming Baseball World Cup.
