The Independent League adventures from German right-handed pitcher Martin Dewald are over for now. The 26-year-old got released this week by the River City Rascals and the German national teamer returned to Europe. He will join his former team, the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe, in the German Baseball-Bundesliga.
Following graduating from Georgia State and University, Dewald had tried his luck in professional baseball. He pitched for River City (Frontier League) and Kansas City (American Association) in 2011, going 1-0 with a combined ERA of 4.18 in 25 games. He struck out 17 in 23 2/3 innings, while walking nine. He also played for Germany at the 2011 IBAF Baseball World Cup in Panama.
