Marlins Puerto Cruz gets two young pitchers for 2008

Posted on February 19, 2008 by philipp

Last year’s Spanish champion Marlins Puerto Cruz replaces pitchers Yoel HERNANDEZ and Fernando GUTIERREZ, who both leave the club with two pitching prospects.

Ivan GRANADOS is a left-hander, who is from San Carlos, Venezuela. He is a former minor league pitcher in the Oakland Athletics organization. He had joined CB Sant Boi last year. He had a 2-5 record with an ERA of 4.61 in 13 games. He struck out 69 in 54.2 innings pitched. However he also walked 57. The 22-year-old was also a member of the Spanish National Team at the Baseball World Cup in Taiwan. He went 0-1 in three appearances. He allowed three homeruns, two singles and six base on balls in just four innings. He will try to better up his performances on the international level next month at the Olympic qualifier.

Rookie Audi NUNEZ will also get a chance to pitch for the Marlins during the upcoming season. He is a right-hander and is currently working out with the National Team in preparation for the qualifier.
