After being winless since the end of November, German right-handed pitcher Markus Solbach picked up his fifth “W” on January 8, when his Sydney Blue Sox beat the Melbourne Aces. He issued six hits, three runs and two walks in six innings, while striking out five. He is now 5-2 with an ERA of 4.38 in 11 games (10 starts) this year in the Australian Baseball League. He has struck out 46 and walked 19 in 61 2/3 innings. However he has lost his dominant touch of the beginning of the season, as he has allowed at least three earned runs in each of his last six starts.
