Right-hander Markus Solbach, who had signed with the Minnesota Twins organization last winter, is going to play for the Bonn Capitals when playing in Germany. He appeared in a preseason game a couple of weeks ago and the club has confirmed the acquisition. His former team, the Pulheim Gophers, withdrew from upper-level competition in German Baseball following the 2011 season.
The 20-year-old Solbach went 3-3 with an ERA of 1.91 in 15 relief appearances for the Gulf Coast League Twins in 2011. He struck out 17 batters in 28 1/3 innings, walking eight. During the winter he pitched in the Australian Baseball League, although his appearances were cut short due to an illness. He will enter his second professional season this spring.
