The 18-year-old right-handed pitcher Marcel Penger leaves the Bonn Capitals after two years and returns to his former club Hagen Chipmunks. The past two seasons he split time with the Baseball-Bundesliga and the third-division teams of the Capitals. In eleven games in the German elite league he had a 3-2 record with an ERA of 6.56 and 15 strikeouts (23 walks) in 35 2/3 innings. However he made just two appearances (one start) in 2009.
Penger also was a member of the German national team during the European Championship Juniors in Bonn, where he had a 0-1 record with an ERA of 2.79 in two games (one start). He struck out six in 9 2/3 innings, walking seven. He took the loss starting against the Netherlands.
