The Mannheim Tornados suffer a setback in their pursuit of a spot in the playoffs in the southern division of the German Baseball-Bundesliga. The record title holder lost last Saturday’s 2-1 win over the Mainz Athletics, as they were using a suspended player/coach in both games. The German Baseball and Softball Federation decided to award Mainz a pair of 9-0 wins as consequence.
Mannheim had lost Friday’s game 5-10 on the field. The Tornados dropped to 8-12 in the standings, two games behind the Haar Disciples (11-11). The A’s (now 14-8) already have secured a postseason berth. Mannheim has four games left against the Bad Homburg Hornets, while the Disciples have two versus the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe.
