The New York Times reports that Major League Baseball is talking to the Treasury Department of the United States to let players from Cuba sign directly with MLB organizations. Under the proposed plan an entity would be created, which transfers a percentage of the players’ salaries to baseball development projects in Cuba. MLB hopes that this suggestion is in line with the embargo, which doesn’t allow money being transferred directly to the Cuban government. The Tampa Bay Rays are playing against the Cuban national team on March 22, an exhibition game which will be attended by US President Barrack Obama, who will be visiting Havana as first US President in 88 years.
