Two weeks after releasing Daisuke Ikenaga and Soh Terada, the German Baseball-Bundesliga club Mainz Athletics has added right-handed pitcher and shortstop Pat Haugen to the team. He will arrive this week. Haugen is coming from San Francisco State (NCAA Division II), where he played the past two years. In the most recent season he led the pitching staff with an 8-4 record and an ERA of 2.53 in 19 appearances (11 starts). He struck out 114 batters in 92 1/3 innings, walking 31. The A’s lost twice last weekend at home against the Mannheim Tornados and the chances of reaching the playoffs are getting pretty slim.
