Longest European Baseball Games in History

Here are some interesting facts that Philip J Lowry sent us. Since 1963 Philip gathers information on the longest games ever played by European teams. If anybody knows of a longer game please comment on this article. There are also some countries without any information yet.

GERMANY:
20 innings – Reiterstadion, Koln – 4/6/2005 – Bundesliga Nord – Bonn Capitals 9 Koln Cardinals 7 in 5:50 – 600 fans – finished at 6:50 PM.

ITALY AND SAN MARINO: 17 – San Marino Stadium, San Marino – 9/16/1986 – European Confederation Playoffs – Biemme Fortitudo Bologna 12 Chesterfield San Marino 10 in 5:45 – finished at 2:45 AM.

NETHERLANDS: 17 – Neptunus Family Stadion, Rotterdam – 7/6/2001 – World Port Tournament – Cuba 5 Netherlands 4 in 4:59, rhubarb delay 0:06 top 7th – 5000 fans, 4250 fans at end – finished at 12:35 AM.

BELGIUM: 16 – ?/??/1995 – Sportpark Brasschaaat, Antwerp – Brasschaat Braves 5 Royal Greys 4 in 4:50 – 200 fans – finished at 8:20 PM.

CZECH: 15 – Strawberry Fields, Blansko – 5/10/2003 – Arrows Ostrava 5 Olympia Blansko 4 in 4:40 – finished at 5:40 PM.

SWEDEN: 15 – Oskarshamn Arena, Oskarshamn – 5/22/2005 – Oskarshamn Lost Boys 11 Goteborg Sharks 10 in 5:45 – finished at 6:45 PM. SPAIN: 14 – Sant Boi Stadium, Barcelona – 6/21/2003 – European Cup Winners Cup – Minolta Pioniers (Netherlands) 8 Sant Boi 7.

AUSTRIA: 14 – Spenadelwiese, Vienna – 10/15/2005 and 10/16/2005 – National Championships – Vienna Wanderers 7 Vienna Metrostars 4 in 4:30, suspended after 4:00 and 13 ½ innings – 250 fans – suspended at 7:00 PM on 10/15; finished at 12:30 PM on 10/16.

ENGLAND: 13 – Coldham Common, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire – ?/??/2002 – Cambridge Monarchs 5 Croydon Pirates 4; 13 – Croydon, Surrey – 4/26/2003 – Rawlings National League – Croydon Pirates 14 Menwith Hill Patriots 13 in 5:02.

RUSSIA: 13 – Chocen, Czech – 7/10/2005 – European Championships – Sweden 3 Russia 2.

CROATIA AND UKRAINE: 13 – Estadio Viladecans, Viladecans, Spain – 9/13/2007 – European Olympic Qualifier – Croatia 2 Ukraine 1 in 3:00 – 250 fans – finished at 3:00 PM.

SCOTLAND: 12 – Jack Kane Sports Centre, Edinburgh – 8/4/1996 – Edinburgh Reivers (later Diamond Devils) 13 Glasgow Comets 12 in 5:45 – ended at 7:45 PM.

FRANCE: 11 – Estadio Guillermon Moncada, Santiago, Cuba – 10/13/2003 – World Cup – China 6 France 5 in 3:40 – finished at 11:40 PM.

LITHUANIA: 11 – Vilnius – 8/2/2001 – National Championships – Juodasis Vikingus Vilnius 7 Lituanica Kaunus 6.

IRELAND: 11 – Regensburg, Germany – 8/3/2004 – European B-Pool Championships – Ireland 8 Austria 2.

    you do not mention greece in the uknown list .
    maybe its an error maybe not .
    anyway for your information greece has never played a regular baseball game up to 9 innings . from 2000 and on, that baseball exist in our country, all games end in 7 innings due to our low level and limited time during games considering the fact that all games of all our championships are played in the 2 olympic training fields in hellinikon.
    However in a game during the greek cup in october of 2004 a game ended after 2 extra innings on the 9th, after 4 hours and 5 minutes . the teams participating were Marousi 2004 that lost and Aris Thessalonikis that won the game on a score of 20 – 7 (tied 7 -7 0n the 7th and 8th)
