Dutch reliever Loek van Mil received a contract offer from the Rakuten Golden Eagles and is on the verge of becoming the second European player in Nippon Professional Baseball besides Italian right-hander Alessandro Maestri. The 29-year-old is currently part of Spring Training with the Golden Eagles, the reigning NPB Champion, and so far impressed the coaches in training camp. In the United States he was playing in the Minor Leagues for the Minnesota Twins, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Angels.
