Dutch right-handed pitcher Loek van Mil passed away at the age of 34 on Sunday due to injuries suffered in a fatal accident, the Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Association (KNBSB) announced on Monday. Van Mil just had announced his retirement at the end of last week. Last winter he suffered a scary head injury while hiking in Australia, when he was playing for the Brisbane Bandits. But he recovered fully after a stint in the hospital. He played professionally in the United States for the Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Angels, Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds and in Japan for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles.
