The two European teams Lithuania and Czech Republic struggled on Monday at the World University Baseball Championship. Lithuania got crushed 0-25 by Canada, which scored six runs each in the second, fourth and sixth frame. Jon Syrnok, Ken Fuglerud and Jeff Vickers combined for eight hits, eight runs scored and twelve RBI. Adam Reynolds allowed two hits and two walks in six innings to pick up the win. Darius Babickas took the loss after getting charged with six hits, eight runs (7 ER) and three base on balls in two innings.
The Czech squad blew a 2-0 lead and lost 2-3 against Taiwan after a two-run single by Hsien-Hsien Yang in the seventh period completed the comeback. Jakum Balik had three hits and a RBI. Martin Schneider and Jan Toman scored the runs for the host of the tournament. Petr Minarik gave up four hits, three runs (2 ER) and four bb in 6 2/3 innings. Ko-Chien Lin picked up the win.
In the third game on Monday, Japan won the Asian duel against Korea 8-4. They scored seven runs in the sixth and seventh period to overcome a 1-4 deficit. Takuya Tsukuura and Takahiro Iwamoto each drove in two. Hiroko Uemoto went three-for-five with two runs scored. Sang Hoon Lee and Kyung Su Bae (2 RBI) had RBI doubles for Korea.
