The LEONES beat the ORKAS 2-1 in eleven innings on Wednesday and put an end to the winning streak of the first European club in the Liga Paralela. They had won the last nine games in a row and moved into first position in the standings.
Angelbert Montilla decided the game with a two-out walk-off homerun of reliever Luis Camacaro (L 0-1) in the bottom half of the eleventh inning. Roberto Mieres picked up the win for 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. The ORKAS trailed since an unearned run in the second period, but tied the game in the top of the eighth, when pinch runner Deivis Freites, who entered the game for Ricky Thomas (walk, pinch hit for Steffan Hoogewerff (1-2)), raced home for the lone ALB run.
Nelson Santander once again was stellar as starter for the ORKAS. He allowed just two hits, an unearned run and three base on balls in six innings, striking out four. He lowered his ERA for the season to 0.53. Yorby Marcano also had a nice outing. The replacement for Santander gave up just one hit in four innings.
Sytse Visbsen started on first base and had a single in three at bats. Bryon Bell had a double . Daniel Bittar replaced Walter Correa at short and went hitless in three at bats.
The ORKAS play the CARIBES today and close out October in Venezuela with a matchup against the NEW YORK METS.
