The Mainz Athletics have concluded its roster for the 2014 season in the German Baseball-Bundesliga according to a local newspaper report. Head coach Ulli Wermuth welcomes back slugger Mike Larson after a one-year break from Baseball. He batted .404/.530/.820 with nine home runs, 27 runs and 32 RBI in 2012 before taking last season off.
Additionally German junior national teamer Lucas Dickmann arrives from the Hünstetten Storm. Already known was the signing of catcher Andrew Jones and the return from Jan-Niclas Stöcklin. Stöcklin and Christian Decher will form an all-German starting pitching rotation, as Pat Haugen isn’t coming back. Jones replaces Andreas Lastinger behind the dish, who has left for the Vienna Wanderers.
Meanwhile Martin Matlacki is leaving the Athletics as well. The outfielder is expected to take over as head coach for the Bad Homburg Hornets. He not only played for Mainz, but also coached youth players of the club.
