Pitcher Karl MEJLHOLM returns to the French champion and runner-up of the European Cup Rouen Huskies. He decided to go back to France despite the interest of Italian champion Montepaschi Grosseto.
The Canadian MEJLHOLM is 23 years old. The Los Angeles Dodgers selected him in the 14th round of the 2002 amateur draft. Unfortunately he never pitched for the organization as he suffered an arm injury. This is especially painful for him as guys like catcher Russell MARTIN and southpaw Eric STULTS, who were drafted after him, reached the big leagues in recent years.
He went to Dover Bay High School, College in Southern Idaho and Washington State University. He signed with Rouen last season and impressed during their run in the European Cup. He dominated the Marlins Puerto Cruz (Spain) in a complete game shutout, allowing just four hits and striking out ten. In the finals he gave up one run on ten hits in seven innings (seven K’s, no walks) against Corendon Kinheim (Netherlands).
During the regular season with the Huskies he had a 3-2 record with one save in eleven games (two starts). He struck out 26 in 27.2 innings pitched, walking four. He will arrive for the upcoming season in mid-March.
Catcher David GAUTHIER, who is currently playing in Australia, comes back around the same time. Starter Keino PEREZ arrived already after pitching in Venezuela in the winter. Infielder Kenji HAGIWARA is expected to come back after finishing the college-ball season in Arizona in May.
Finally Karl Mejholm won’t be an “Husky”!
As you can see following the link below, he signed a professionnal contract with Ottawa Rapids to play in the Can-Am League.
