German catcher Kai Gronauer of the New York Mets organization finished up his stint as the lone European player in the Arizona Fall League on Thursday. The regular season ended with his Mesa Solar Sox losing 1-3 in seven innings to Peoria Saguaros. Peoria Javelinas and the Scottsdale Scorpions will play in the championship game on Saturday afternoon. It will start on 8pm CET and will be shown on MLB Network, maybe also on MLB.com.
Gronauer was the DH in the game batting ninth. He went 2-for-3 with his third double this fall. With the outing he raised his batting average to .222 (OBP .286/SLG .333) in 13 games overall. After getting just one hit in his first five appearances, he found his rhythm in the end and concluded the 2010 season by reaching base in six of his last eight games. Spring Training will show if the then 24-year-old will be promoted to Double-A next year.
