Justin Verlander says no to World Baseball Classic as well

Posted on February 12, 2013February 12, 2013 by philipp

Former Cy Young Award winner and ace of the Detroit Tigers, Justin Verlander, is not going to pitch in the 2013 World Baseball Classic. He said no to an invitation by manager Joe Torre and Team USA. As he reported back to Spring Training with the Tigers in Florida he stated that he wants solely to focus on the preparations for the upcoming season in Major League Baseball. Team USA is facing Italy, Mexico and Canada in Pool D in the first round of the WBC. USA Baseball just had added Gio Gonzalez to the roster. After Kris Medlen’s withdrawal they still have at least one more open pitcher spot for the tournament. Final rosters have to be submitted until February 20.
