Jair Jurrjens: Atlanta Braves right-hander Jair Jurrjens had to leave his last start against the St. Louis Cardinals last Thursday early due to a sore left hamstring. Due to the minor injury his next start was pushed back to Saturday, when the Braves will face the Philadelphia Phillies. He pitched just one inning against the Cards.
Roger Bernadina: Outfielder Roger Bernadina again was called up to the big league team of the Nationals and is supposed to form a platoon with Justin Maxwell in right field. However manager Jim Riggleman hopes that one of the two will impress enough to take over this position full time. Bernadina hasn’t done this so far. Since being back in the MLB he is 1-for-10 with two walks, a run scored and four strikeouts in twelve plate appearances.
Rick van den Hurk: Florida Marlins right-hander Rick van den Hurk isn’t forcing the front office right now to call him up to the big leagues. He has allowed a combined twelve runs over seven innings in his last two starts for Triple-A New Orleans Zephyrs. Overall he has a 1-2 record with an ERA of 6.55 in five starts. He has struck out 15 in 22 innings, walking seven. On the plus side, he just has given up two homeruns all season long.
Alex Liddi: Italian third baseman Alex Liddi out of the Seattle Mariners organization has overcome the early struggles and has collected RBIs in six of the last nine games. He is now batting .268 (OBP .318/SLG .463) with three homeruns, nine runs scored and 17 RBI for West Tenn Diamond Jaxx.
Kalian Sams: Dutch outfielder Kalian Sams, who is playing in the Midwest League for the Mariners affiliate Clinton Lumber Kings, is second in the league to Dodgers prospect Jerry Sands (10) with eight homeruns. Overall he is batting .205 (OBP .268/SLG .545) with 16 runs and 20 RBI in 25 games.
Alex Maestri: The Italian reliever Alex Maestri didn’t allow a run in his past three appearances for the Tennessee Smokies in the Southern League. He has a 2-1 record with an ERA of 3.86 in nine games. He has struck out 16 batters in 16 1/3 innings, while walking five.
