The 2010 IBAF World Junior Baseball Championship got underway today with an all Americas match-up between Cuba and Panama.
The start of the game was postponed due to light rain, but field crews worked to get the field in playing condition soon after the rain ceased.
In the contest, Cuba picked up 10 runs on 10 hits on their way to shutting out the Panamanians 10-0 at Port Arthur Stadium, Thunder Bay. The early rain did not to dampen the Cuban bats that included a home run by Cuba’s Aviles D. Guillermo.
Cuba’s starter Vaentin G. Eddyalb held Panama to two hits over seven innings, striking out five on his way to the complete game shutout. (Game ended in seven innings as per IBAF run rules)
Panama was hurt by some mistakes, committing four errors on defense.
