Left-handed pitcher Junior Oberto of the Italian Baseball League club Montepaschi Grosseto suffered a knee injury during an accident in Grosseto on Friday. According to the report on Baseball.it an elderly lady didn’t halt at a stop sign with her car and hit Oberto, who was riding his scooter. A MRI is scheduled for Tuesday, which will reveal how much damage was made.
The 29-year-old Oberto did miss most of the 2008 season due to an elbow injury. Last year he had a 4-4 record with an ERA of 4.55 in 14 games, striking out 50 in 59 1/3 innings (27 walks). In four seasons IBL he has a career ERA of 3.30.
In other news from Grosseto, the club published a press release on Friday, confirming the signing of infielder Danny Sandoval. President Roberto Ferri denied the rumors of the past couple of days, which connected the Orioles to Leonardo Mazzanti and others. The current roster would have the full confidence by the coaching staff and there is no need to purchase new players.
In non-team related news the Baseball club Grosseto and the humanitarian organization Emergency formed a partnership, which was presented on a press conference last weekend. They are planning to donate funds to a pediatric center of the refugee camp in Sudan.
