First baseman Jose Dariel Abreu has defected from Cuba and is currently somewhere else in the Caribbean. The 26-year-old went .382/.535/.735 in the 2012/2013 season and .360/.385/.760 in the 2013 World Baseball Classic. He now has to establish residency outside of Cuba and then need to be cleared by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control if he wants to play in Major League Baseball. This should take a couple of months. Afterwards he will likely take the same path of Aroldis Chapman, Yoenis Cespedes and Yasiel Puig and will sign as a free agent with a MLB club.
