With the WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship starting on July 15 in Surrey, Canada, 13 national teams gathered in Oklahoma for the annual World Cup of Softball last week. Japan won the tournament by defeating Team USA 2-1 in the Gold Medal Game. Australia finished in third.
European softball was represented by the Netherlands and Czech Republic in the tournament. The Dutch team won 4-3 against Venezuela and 6-0 against the Philippines during the group stage. In the game for ninth place in the final standings they beat Mexico 7-0. The Czech Republic remained winless during the preliminary round and lost 2-3 to the Philippines in the game for 12th.
