The Australian Baseball League opened the 2015/2016 season this past weekend. The Canberra Cavalry and the Perth Heat opened the new campaign with three wins in four games over the Adelaide Bite and the Brisbane Bandits. The Melbourne Aces and the Sydney Blue Sox split their four-game set.
During Sydney’s 2-4 loss in game three on Saturday, German right-hander Jan-Niclas Stoecklin made his debut in the ABL. He got the start for the Blue Sox and issued just one hit, a run and three walks in four strong innings. Brad Harman’s solo shot was the lone blemish on an otherwise clean slate.
Looking at the other games David Harris of the Cavalry dominated opposing pitching by going 9-for-16 with a home run and six RBI. Brisbane’s David Sutherland drove in seven. On the mound Yasuo Sano struck out ten in 6 2/3 innings for the Aces. Matthew Larkins (Melbourne), Matthew Williams (Adelaide) and Nick Veale (Perth) pitched eight, seven and six innings of scoreless ball.
