The Solingen Alligators announced on Tuesday that they have signed right-handed pitcher Jadd Schmeltzer as new starting pitcher for game two each week in the German Baseball-Bundesliga. The 27-year-old is replacing Chris Mezger, who has left the club after two seasons as best pitcher in the northern division. He played two seasons of affiliated minor league ball with the Boston Red Sox before joining the independent league circuit. He suited up for the Trois-Rivieres Aigles and Les Capitales de Quebec in Canada. Besides Mezger, also Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez has left Solingen to join the second-division club Berlin Flamingos.
Schmeltzer signed through the International Baseball Community website with the Solingen Alligators.
