After Thursday’s scheduled game was rained out, Team Italy and the Washington Nationals agreed to play a 13-inning game on Friday instead of the planned two seven-inning matches. The squad of Nationals minor leaguers, including the MLB proven hurlers Todd Coffey and Doug Slaten, won 2-1 in the end.
Juan Carlos Infante had two hits for Italy, while Stefano De Simoni, Mario Chiarini, Jairo Ramos, Alex Sambucci and Alessandro Vaglio picked up the other five. On the mound Chris Cooper, Tiago Da Silva, Cody Cillo, Carlos Richetti, Chris Di Roma, Yovany D’Amico, Marco Grifantini and Justin Cicatello shared the workload for the team of manager Marco Mazzieri.
