Posted on July 29, 2008 by philipp

The regular season in the Italian Season in the Italian Softball League was finished a few weeks ago. Between the end and the start of the postseason, the Italian Baseball and Softball Federation scheduled the Coppa Italia, a cup event for the Serie A1 teams. In the preliminary round AMGA LEGNANO and the EUROPROMO TITANO HORNETS won their pools with perfect 3-0 record and advanced to the Final Four in Bolzano together with the runner ups FIORINI FORLI and CASSA PADANA PARMA. This tournament took place the past weekend.

In semi-final one LEGNANO squared off with FORLI and used a eleven-run fifth to beat them 12-5. Kate Judd hit a homerun. Daniela Castellani and Valeria Genghini each drove in three. Aimee Murch pitched four solid innings for the win. Kasi Carroll allowed six runs on eight hits to take the loss.

In the second semi-final PARMA shut out the HORNETS 2-0. Amanda Nealer allowed just two hits and four walks in seven innings to lead CASSA PADANA into the final. Andrea Montanari scored both runs, one on a solo homerun and the other on a passed ball. Laura Gerussi took the loss.

The defending champion LEGNANO won their third straight Coppa Italia title through a 4-1 victory against PARMA in the following final. Michelle Musitelli Romani delivered the decisive hit with a bases clearing triple in the bottom of the fifth, breaking the 1-1 tie. Daniela Castellani gave up one run on four hits in six innings, while striking out six. Anita Rosano struck out nine, but also walked seven in the loss.
