Italian Softball: Europromo still undefeated

Posted on April 23, 2008 by philipp

EUROPROMO is the only undefeated team in the Italian Softball League after three game days. They defeated PARMA twice last weekend. Karen Paviotti and Yue-Fen Sun combined for a 4-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory in the first part of the doubleheader. In the second, TITANO needed a RBI-single from Fiori Alice in the first extra-inning to win 3-2.

On two and three in the standing follow LEGNANO and FORLI. They faced each other last Saturday. FIORINI dominated the first game, winning 13-0. Stephanie Ray, Miranda Ervin and Christen Bedwell hit homeruns. But the champion of 2007 fought back in the second match. Aimee Murch struck out seven in a complete game victory. The offense scored four runs in fifth to seal the 4-1 win.

After these three teams, there is already a gap in the standings. MACERATA is in fourth with two wins after a split in Nuoro. Megan MacKenzie led MOSCA to a 9-5 victory in game one with four runs scored, three RBI and a homerun. She also impressed in the second part of the doubleheader, which featured a pitchers duel over nine innings. Jocelin McCallum struck out 20 (!) in nine innings. She gave up just three hits and a walk and received the win. MacKenzie was on the mound for MACERATA. She didn’t disappoint either, while striking out 18 in 8 1/3 innings. She took the loss after giving up a walk-off RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth. Cavallo Paol got the big hit for NUORO.

Finally BOLLATE got their first win of the season in a split with CASERTA. Match one was decided in the eighth inning through a RBI-single by Simona Spacciante, which led to the 2-1 win of CASERTA. SANOTINT used an impressive performance by pitcher Kelly Hardie to prevail in the second part of the doubleheader. She struck out nine in a seven-inning no-hitter. She allowed just a walk and an unearned run. She also reached base three times and drove in one.

Results:
Des Caserta – Sanotint Bollate 2-1, 1-3
Museo D’Arte Nuoro – Mosca Macerata 5-9, 2-0 (9)
AMGA Legnano – Fiorini Forli 0-13 (5), 4-1
Europromo Titano Hornets – Cassa Padana Parma 2-0, 3-2 (8)
