Italy also won its fourth game at the 4th Italian Baseball Week, celebrating a 12-0 shutout in the semi-finals against Sweden on Monday in Torino. Two two-run doubles by Giuseppe Mazzanti (3 RBI) and Stefano De Simoni highlighted a six-run rally in the first. Jairo Ramos and Jack Santora combined for five RBI. On the mound pitchers Roberto Corradini, Chris Cooper, Yovany D’Amico and Marco Grifantini (W) allowed just one first-inning single by Peter Johannessen and three walks in seven scoreless innings. Grifantini received the win after striking out the side in the seventh. Per Sjörs (L) started for Sweden and issued six hits, eight runs (2 ER) and three bb in three innings.

Spain – Czech Republic 9-2

In the second semi-final in Novara, Spain scored eight of their nine runs in a 9-2 win over the Czech Republic between the fifth and eighth, overcoming a 1-2-deficit in the process. Dewis Navarro hit a solo homerun and drove in three. Leadoff man Emmanuel Febles went 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles and four runs scored. The Czech team had taken the lead after Martin Schneider scored on an error and a sac fly by Jan Drabek in the fourth. Ivan Granados (ESP) struck out eight in four-plus innings, issuing five hits, two unearned runs and two bb. Remigio Leal (W) closed it out with seven Ks in five two-hit, one-walk innings of relief. Leos Kubat (L) gave up five hits, four runs (3 ER) and four walks in 5 2/3 innings.
