One big inning was enough for Italy on Monday to beat Spain 3-1 at the Italian Baseball Week in Nettuno. An error and a pair of RBI singles by Tony Granato and Mario Chiarini erased a 0-1 deficit and gave the Squadra Azzurri a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Dewis Navarro had given Spain a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first. Antonio Noguera (ESP) was the best of the ten pitchers used in the game by the two teams. He struck out six in four no-hit innings, walking just two.
Earlier in the day the game between Chinese Taipei and Czech Republic had to be canceled due to rain.
