Unipol Bologna forced game five in their semi-final series against ASD Rimini with an 8-4 win in ten innings on Wednesday evening. Bologna, which is the defending Italian Baseball League champion, now has erased an 0-2 deficit in the best-of-five series. Game five will be played on Saturday in Bologna.
After Bologna scored in the opening period, Rimini scored four runs until the end of the fourth for a 4-1 lead. However Fortitudo tied the game at 4-4 with three runs in the sixth. As regulation didn’t determine a winner, extra innings were needed. In the tenth Bologna quickly loaded the bases with no outs. A sac fly by Alessandro Vaglio pushed the go-ahead run over the plate. RBI singles by Jose Flores and Alex Sambucci in combination with an error provided three more insurance runs to secure the win.
Robel Garcia hit a two-run home run for Unipol during their rally in the sixth. Vaglio collected four hits. Only his lone out led to a run. Juan Carlos Infante collected three hits for Rimini. Roberto Corradini pitched four scoreless innings of relief for the win. Carlos Teran got charged with the loss.
T&A San Marino is already qualified for the Italian Series after a sweep against Angel Service Nettuno.
