Italian Baseball League: Reggio Emilia beats Nettuno, Bologna stumbles against Ronchi dei Legionari

It was a day of surprises in the Italian Baseball League on Saturday. In the afternoon game Unipol Bologna lost 2-3 to the New Black Panthers Ronchi dei Legionari. A three-run home run by Jordano Collado erased a 0-2 deficit with one swing and gave Ronchi the lead and eventually the win. Jesus Yepez and Matt Litzinger combined to keep the Bologna offense in check. In the evening game Fortitudo celebrated a 6-2 win, scoring four runs in the seventh and eighth combined to decide the outcome. Daniele Malengo homered and scored twice. Carlos Richetti struck out 11 in six innings.

Meanwhile Palfinger Reggio Emilia swept Nettuno, which continued its downfall. Reggio Emilia won 9-5 and 4-3. In the afternoon game they overcame home runs by Giuseppe Mazzanti and Ben Harrison to pick up the win. Paul Macaluso and Jose Ferrini had two RBI apiece. In the evening Palfinger turned a 2-3 deficit around in the eighth, when an error on a groundball to first by Alessandro Bertoli helped to plate two runs.

T&A San Marino celebrated two wins over Mastiff Grosseto. In game one of the twin bill San Marino scored three runs in the sixth of a 3-1 victory. Jim Magrane tossed six two-hit, two-walk innings for the win. He struck out seven. In the second game the Titans scored three runs in the first, fifth, sixth and ninth to win 12-1. Carlos Duran and Mattia Reginato each had four RBI.

Parma had a successful trip to the north east, winning 11-1 and 5-2 against the Godo Knights. Game one was a lopsided affair, as the Angels scored at will and never were in danger of losing. Osman Marval led the way, going 3-for-4 with two walks, three runs and three RBI. Jose Sanchez struck out nine in seven strong innings. In the second game Parma needed four runs in the last two frames to prevail over a strong Godo squad. Mirco Caradonna homered for the Knights. Osman Marval had three more hits for Parma.
