In the Italian Baseball League Parma, Bologna and Padua completed three-game sweeps on Saturday. Parma stunned Rimini 3-1 at Pirati Stadium. Ronald Uviedo struck out seven in seven strong innings for the win. A two-run single by Davide Benetti in the top of the fourth broke a 1-1 tie en route to the win. Jose Escalona got charged with the loss.
Unipol Bologna meanwhile prevailed 10-3 over Nettuno on Saturday. They scored in four of the first five innings and cruised to an easy victory. Five pitchers shared the work load on the mound with Riccardo De Santis earning the win. Francesco Fuzzi homered for Bologna. Alex Sambucci drove in four. Juan Carlos Torres went deep for Nettuno.
In the third matchup this week Tommasin Padua completed a three-game sweep over Novara with a 9-5 victory. Novara took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and led 5-4 after five innings. But two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh lifted Padua to a comeback win. Jose Ferrini, Nick Nosti and Daniele Malengo combined for seven RBI. Filippo Pacini scored three times for Padua.
