Italian Baseball League: New Black Panthers stun Nettuno on Friday

The Italian Baseball League continued with three games on Friday evening. The New Black Panthers stunned Nettuno 5-0. Ronchi dei Legionari was led by Jesus Yepez who struck out 14 in a complete game two-hit shutout. It was a pitcher’s duel with Riccardo de Santis until the New Black Panthers scored four runs in the top of the ninth. Jordano Collado had given Ronchi a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the fourth.

Meanwhile Unipol Bologna needed a pinch hit walk-off RBI single by Luca Bischeri in the bottom of the tenth inning to defeat Palfinger Reggio Emilia 5-4. Paul Macaluso’s RBI single in the eighth had tied the game for Reggio Emilia. Alessandro Vaglio had three hits for Bologna. Mattia Barbaresi picked up the win with two scoreless relief innings. Filippo Crepaldi got charged with the loss.

Parma stunned Rimini with a 5-4 win in the third matchup of the day. Three runs in the first and two in the fourth put them on the way. Rimini cut the deficit to a run in the eighth. In the ninth Rimini’s Lorenzo Di Fabio got thrown out at the plate to end the game. Alex Sambucci hit his first home run of the season. He drove in three. Jose Sanchez got the win. Marcos Tabata closed it out. Enorbel Marquez once again was brilliant in relief, issuing just one hit and two walks in 4 1/3 scoreless innings.
