Postponed from Saturday to Sunday, Unipol Bologna celebrated a pair of lopsided wins over Novara Baseball to open the 2013 campaign in the Italian Baseball League and capping week one’s action.

In game one Chris Aguila and Alessandro Vaglio homered as Fortitudo dominated in a 15-3 blowout. Aguila, Gabriele Ermini and Vaglio combined for ten RBI. Aguila led all batters by going 4-for-5 with two runs and four RBI. Victor Moreno and Raul Rivero did the rest on the mound. Franklin Torres got charged with the loss, issuing eight hits, eight runs (6 ER) and a walk in 3 2/3 innings. Carlos Boza drove in two of the three Novara runs.

In the second match Bologna scored ten runs in the first two frames en route to an 11-1 win, also in seven innings. Matteo D’Angelo threw five scoreless four-hit innings for the win. Luca Panerati, who is departing to Japan in the next couple of days, pitched a scoreless seventh. Four players scored twice. Daniele Malengo drove in three. Mario Di Taddeo surrendered four hits, nine runs and five walks in 1 1/3 innings to take the loss.
