Posted on July 7, 2014July 7, 2014 by philipp

The three-team race for the Italian Baseball Series continued this weekend. On Saturday Unipol Bologna won 14-7 and lost 4-7 to win the series against T&A San Marino 2-1. Bologna improved to 6-3 in the semi-final round robin, while the Titans dropped to 5-4.

In the afternoon matinee Bologna erased an early 0-5 deficit and stormed to the win with 11 combined runs in the seventh and the eighth. Guillermo Rodriguez and Trent Oeltjen connected for home runs and seven of the 13 RBI. Wuillians Vasquez went deep for San Marino.

In the evening game it was San Marino’s turn for a comeback. They trailed 0-4 after two innings, but tied the game in the fifth and reached victory lane with a three-run seventh. Mattia Reginato and Francesco Imperiali had two RBI apiece. Imperiali also hit a home run.

Meanwhile Rimini tied San Marino in the standings with five wins in nine games. They won the rubber match of their series 5-4 against Parma. A RBI fielder’s choice of Riccardo Babini in the bottom of the fifth turned out to be the difference. Osman Marval homered for Parma, which is 2-7.
