IBL Semis: Rimini, San Marino avoid Sweeps in Week 2

T&A San Marino avoided a sweep in three-game series with UGF Bologna, as they won 9-2 on Saturday evening. Both teams are now 4-2 and tied in first place of the semi-final round in the Italian Baseball League.

The Titans made clear from the beginning that they wouldn’t lose again, putting four runs on the board in the opening frame and eight in the first six innings. Ulrich Snijders hit two homeruns, Max De Biase (3 RBI) and Dean Rovinelli one each. Livinston Santaniello drove in two for Fortitudo.

Luca Martignoni (W) gave up five hits, an unearned run and four bb in six innings. Fabio Betto (L) gave up nine hits, six runs (5 ER) and four walks in 4 2/3 innings.

Telemarket Rimini finally has its first victory in the semi-finals, winning a slugfest 11-9 against Cariparma Parma on Saturday. While the Pirates remain in fourth place with a 1-5 record, Parma dropped back to .500 and third place in the standings.

RBI singles by Mattia Campanini and Lorenzo Avagnina in the seventh and ninth broke a 9-9 tie and helped Rimini winning game three of the series. Avagnina also hit a grand slam in the fourth and drove in five overall. Orlando Munoz picked up three RBI for Cariparma. Juan Camilo went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and a RBI.

Michele Quattrini (RIM) issued eight hits, eight runs and five bb in three-plus innings. Roberto Corradini (PAR) surrendered eight hits, nine runs (8 ER) and two walks in four-plus innings. Mauro Schiavoni (W) received the win. Francesco Corsaro (L) gave up the winning run in the seventh.
