After losing game one on Wednesday against last year’s champion, RIMINI made sure to avoid a 0-2 start into the semi-final round robin in the Italian Baseball League. They defeated SAN MARINO 2-0 on Friday night thanks to a dominant performance by starter Rafael Garcia, who struck out nine in seven innings, allowing three hits and a walk. Gustavo Martinez threw 47 pitches and faced twelve batters thru the last two frames, but completed the shutout anyway. Mario Chiarini put the PIRATES ahead with a RBI double in the second. A bases loaded walk by Ivanon Coffie in the fifth, forced in another run. Horacio Estrada lasted just 4 1/3 innings on the mound for T&A and conceded three hits, two runs and five bb.

BOLOGNA crushed PARMA 22-5 in game two on Friday. They already opened the contest by scoring four runs in the first, which was countered by an own four-run rally by CARIPARMA in the second. But the offense of FORTITUDO hadn’t even started yet, as they scored in bunches from the fourth frame on. Eddy Garabito hit the go-ahead homerun in the fourth and drove in a total of four batters. He also scored four times. Richard Austin went three-for-four with a grand slam and six RBI. Claudio Liverziani (4 RBI) and Stefano Landuzzi collected four hits each. Stefano de Simoni hit a solo homerun for PARMA. Jesus Matos picked up the win after six rocky innings, allowing seven hits, five runs (2 ER) and two walks. Ricardo Palma took the loss, giving up six hits, six runs and five bb in 3 2/3 innings. Oscar Lira and Filippo Mori followed him on the mound and were responsible for a combined 14 runs in three innings of relief.
