The Houston Astros have selected 23-year-old infielder Stijn van der Meer in the 34th round of Major League Baseball’s amateur draft on Saturday. The player of Curacao Neptunus Rotterdam had been attending Eastern Oklahoma State University and Lamar University (NCAA Division I). With Lamar he was selected for the All-Southland team. He is the first player from the Netherlands to be drafted since Mike Bolsenbroek in 2008 (Philadelphia Phillies).
