The host of the Final Olympic Qualifying Tournament, Chinese Taipei, got off to a perfect start. 10.000 people were on hand as they defeated Spain 13-3, using the ten-run rule to shorten the contest to seven innings. After struggling during exhibitions in front of the event, the offense came through in the opener.
Spain started strong, leading off the match with two runs, but felt apart afterwards. Taiwan evened the score in the bottom of the first and took the lead in the second. They scored in every of the first four frames and build up a 12-2 advantage. Both teams added another run until the game was called after the seventh period.
Chien-Ming CHIANG received the win, Manuel OLIVERA the loss.
