Hoofdklasse: Top 4 celebrate Sweeps

Posted on July 7, 2014July 7, 2014 by philipp

The top four in the Dutch Hoofdklasse celebrated sweeps this weekend. L&D Amsterdam followed its 8-3 win over the ADO Lakers from Thursday with 5-1 and 13-1 victories on Saturday and Sunday. Chris Mowday and Kevin Heijstek dominated on the mound. Bas Nooij drove in four in game three.

Corendon Kinheim downed Mr. Cocker HCAW 6-2 and 6-1 following Thursday’s 5-4 nail-biter. Quintin de Cuba homered twice and drove in five in both games. Jerrold Martijn and Nick Veltkamp earned the wins as starting pitchers.

DOOR Neptunus improved to 12-0 in the second phase of the regular season with 2-0 and 12-2 wins on the weekend. They had defeated Mampaey The Hawks 13-0 on Thursday. Orlando Yntema pitched a complete game shutout on Saturday. One day later Shaldimar Daantji had three RBI and Benjamin Dille scored four runs.

Dirk van’t Klooster collected four more hits in 17-6 and 9-4 wins of his Vaessen Pioniers over UVV. He now stands just five hits away from the all-time hits record in the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Seven players scored twice in the Saturday blowout. The Pioniers needed a five-run tenth on Sunday to edge out the team from Utrecht.

The Dutch Hoofdklasse will be interrupted for two weeks due to the Haarlem Baseball Week, which starts this week.
