The 2009 Holland Series between DOOR NEPTUNUS and KONICA MINOLTA PIONIERS to determine the Dutch Baseball champion will start on Thursday evening at the Familie Stadium in Rotterdam.
NEPTUNUS not only won the regular season title with a 32-9 record (one tie), but also swept the semi-final series 3-0 against CORENDON KINHEIM. The PIONIERS were third (27-13-2) after the regular season and they kicked out 2008 champion L&D AMSTERDAM over four games in the playoffs.
During the regular season NEPTUNUS won five games against the PIONIERS after a 3-3 tie in the first match of the season series. DOOR last won the championship in 2005, the team from Hoofddorp picked up the trophy in 1997.
NEPTUNUS used Diegomar Markwell, Kevin Heijstek and Dushan Ruzic as starting pitchers during the postseason so far with Markwell most likely getting the start in the opener. The PIONIERS will probably counter with Ryan Murphy, Roger Kops and Shane Gnade. Murphy, who will start in game one, led AMSTERDAM to the title last year, sweeping KINHEIM as the Holland Series MVP.
