Curacao Neptunus has won game one of the 2017 Holland Series, defeating L&D Amsterdam 5-4 on a walk-off wild pitch. Rotterdam trailed the Pirates 0-3 after five innings and 2-4 entering the bottom of the ninth. But Jochem Koedijk came through with a two-run single to tie the game with two outs. Moments later pinch runner Darryl Collins scored the winning run on a wild pitch from Daan Hendrix. Loek van Mil picked up the win in relief.
Diegomar Markwell lasted only 4 1/3 innings for Curacao Neptunus, allowing three runs (2 ER) on nine hits. Van Mil struck out three in 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Rob Cordemans struck out seven in 7 2/3 strong innings. He issued two runs on five hits in a vintage performance for the veteran right-hander. Nick Urbanus drove in two for the Pirates.
Game two will be played on Saturday.
