Herts Falcons add LHP Robbie Almanzar for 2015 Season

The Herts Falcons have announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Robbie Almanzar, who will be entering his fourth season in the National Baseball League after previously playing on the Championship-winning Harlow Nationals in 2012-13 and the Essex Arrows in 2014.

Almanzar, from the Dominican Republic, burst onto the scene in 2012, winning the Most Valuable Pitcher award after a remarkable debut season in the NBL when he led the league in all of the key pitching categories including Most Wins (9 wins, 0 losses), Most Strike-Outs (52), Best ERA (3.36), Best WHIP (1.17) and Most Innings Pitched (72).

Although NBL fans mostly recognise Almanzar for his pitching achievements, he also has impressive batting stats, with a career NBL batting average of .281 and a slugging average of .378.

This news will be a major boost for Herts ahead of the new season, as the Falcons had lost 2014 NBL Most Valuable Batter and Most Valuable Pitcher Abel Salas, who has moved to the USA. Herts has also added Great Britain National Team third baseman Maikel Azcuy over the winter.
