Even though Hensley Meulens got promoted by the San Francisco Giants a couple of weeks ago, he still has hopes to find a better job in Major League Baseball. On Monday evening the New York Post reported that he will interview for the manager opening of the New York Yankees.
The 50-year-old manager of the Netherlands World Baseball Classic and Premier12 team once was a prospect in the Yankees organization, but instead became a much better coach. Meulens is working with New York’s shortstop Didi Gregorius each winter.
Besides Meulens its already known that also Aaron Boone, Rob Thompson and Eric Wedge have interviewed for the Yankees job. A couple of more interviews are expected before a decision for the successor of Joe Girardi will be made. Girardi’s contract wasn’t renewed after the 2017 season.
