Hensley Meulens
Former Dutch national teamer Hensley Meulens, who won the 2010 World Series as an assistant coach with the San Francisco Giants last fall, has taken over as head coach of the Venezuelan Winter League team Bravos de Margarita according to a report by Honkbalsite.com. He is leading them in the playoffs. He already worked as hitting coach for the team during the regular season. But his predecessor as head coach, Luis Dorante, got a position with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization and had to leave.
Andruw Jones
Major League outfielder Andruw Jones, who played for the Netherlands in the 2006 World Baseball Classic, is nearing an agreement to join the New York Yankees. He would be used in a back-up role as fourth outfielder and right-handed bat from the bench. It would be his fifth team in the last five years. In 2010 Jones batted .230 (OBP .341/SLG .486) with 19 homeruns, 41 runs and 48 RBI in 107 games for the Chicago White Sox. The 33-year-old hadn’t had a starter role in the MLB since his last year with the Atlanta Braves in 2007.
