On Saturday HCAW lost their matchup against the L&D Amsterdam Pirates 4-8. After HCAW took leads in the fourth and fifth, Amsterdam scored three runs in the sixth to get ahead 6-4 en route to the victory.
However the result was only a side story, as HCAW played its 1750th game in the Dutch Hoofdklasse on Saturday. In front of an attendance of 1,500 and 50 former players they played their anniversary match. HCAW played its first Hoofdklasse game in 1967.
Aggy Hoffman, the wife of former HCAW pitcher Rob Hoffman, threw out the ceremonial first pitch. After that club chairman Huib Schrijvers had a surprise for her, as the ballpark got renamed into “Rob Hoffmann Vallei” in honor of the club icon. Hoffmann passed away in 2010.
