After two straight losses Cuba returned to the winning lane with a 3-2 win over Taiwan. But it wasn’t easy, as they needed two runs in the bottom of the eighth to erase a 1-2 deficit. Man of the match Donal Duarte tied the game with a RBI double and later scored the winning run on a single by Alexei Bell. Duarte already had a RBI double in the opening frame. Taiwan had taken the lead in the top of the eighth on a two-run single by Chun Chieh Wang. Maikel Folch (CUB) allowed six hits, two unearned runs and two bb in 7 2/3 innings. Kuan Yu Chen (TPE) issued seven hits, a run and two walks in seven innings. Robelio Carrillo (W) received the win, Chen Hua Lin the loss.
USA – Netherlands 4-12

The Netherlands improved to 5-0 in the 2010 Haarlemse Honkbalweek with a 12-4 win over the USA on Thursday evening. The Dutch team scored in each inning between the third and the eighth to cruise to an easy victory. Eight different players crossed the plate for the team of head coach Jim Stoeckel. Bryan Engelhardt went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI and a homerun shy of the cycle. Eugene Kingsale, Vince Rooi and Bas Nooij also drove in two each. Tyler Hall scored twice for the American team. Kevin Heijstek (W) gave up just one hit and a walk in five scoreless innings for the win. Andrew Morris (L) conceded five hits, four runs (3 ER) and three bb in four innings for the loss.
Notes: 4,800 was the announced crowd, although the actual number was probably close to 5,000 at the Pim Mulier Stadium…Ned Nolan, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in The Hague, threw out the ceremonial first pitch….Bryan Engelhardt was named man of the match, for the second time in the tournament.
