The German Baseball-Bundesliga club Haar Disciples brings in another new player for the 2010 season. The 24-year-old American outfielder Zach Kim is coming from the University of San Francisco, following in the footsteps of his former teammate with the Dons, Tavo Hall. Both played together in 2008. He is the third new player for head coach Chris Dresel after outfielder Dominic Maric and pitcher Simon Mantz.
Kim was born in San Mateo, California, attended Castro Valley High School and played the past four seasons for the NCAA Division I team of USF in the West Coast Conference. He batted .353 (OBP .460/SLG .482) with two homeruns, three triples, 17 doubles, 52 runs scored and 30 RBI in 56 games. He led the league with 42 stolen bases (3rd in nation). He was named to the West Coast Conference First Team. Kim played in the same league as 2009 number-one draft pick Stephen Strasburg.
Kim could form an explosive duo with Hall at the top of the batting order for the Disciples. However the return of the fast shortstop to Munich isn’t safe yet. Hall would like to come back, but he might not be able due to his studies. According to the report on Haar’s website could join in May. If he will not come, the club already has a replacement in position.
Stephen Strasberg played for San Diego State a member of the Mountain West Conference. Zach Kim played for The University of San Francisco members of the West Coast Conference.
Thanks for the remark.
