South Africa has added a 40-man roster player to its roster for the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Sydney, Australia. The 26-year-old infielder Gift Ngoepe of the Pittsburgh Pirates joins the team. He batted .257/.333/.352 in 92 games in Double-A and Triple-A last year and was added to the 40-man roster during the offseason. He already played in the 2009 main tournament of the World Baseball Classic and the 2012 WBC Qualifier. South Africa faces the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand at Blacktown International Sportspark in Sydney from February 11 to 14. He is going to be the only 40-man roster player during that tournament.
